 The Elementary E project for Durham Public
Schools is a complete new facility with classroom, multipurpose
areas, gymnasium, and food service features. Site work
includes road widening, adaptive rework of existing farm structures,
construction of new parking and access roads, a new play areas and a
nature trail. The project will be submitted for LEED
certification with a goal of a "Silver" rating with the US Green
Building Council. The project also involved close coordination
with the State of North Carolina Fish & Wildlife Service in working
around an endangered plant species, the smooth coneflower, known to
occupy the site.
